Remy Ma Sentenced to 8 years

Just minutes ago, incarcerated rapper Remy Ma was sentenced to 8 years in Manhattan Criminal Court for weapons and coercion charges. SOHH was on the scene as the sentence was handed down.

As SOHH previously reported, on March 27 a Manhattan jury convicted Remy of first-degree assault, criminal weapons charges and attempted coercion, for shooting her former friend, Makeda Barnes-Jospeh, in the abdomen last July. The two were in a dispute over the rapper's missing $3,000 that Remy accused the victim of stealing.

Remy (born Reminisce Smith) was initially scheduled to be sentenced on April 23, however, Judge Rena Uviller postponed the trial until today, granting the Grammy nominated rapper's attorney, Ivan Fisher, additional time to properly prepare for the date.

Today, Remy wept as she pleaded to the judge.

"I stand here today as Remy Mackie," she said with tears in her eyes as she asked for leniency. "I'm a loving wife, mother and loving daughter and loving sister to my brothers and sisters."

Remy also addressed Barnes-Joseph. "I apologize for not saving you from your physical and mental scars."

Before delivering the sentence of 8 years, the judge gave a statement.

"I've learned Remy is an intelligent and charitable young woman," the judge said. "She's overcome a difficult childhood. Her music has inspired people in need. She's loved and has support from her family."

After the complementary remarks, the judge turned her remarks to accountability.

"This is somewhat of a pattern. This is not the first time she has been engaged in a violent act. She never took responsibility for her actions. This has nothing to do with rap it's about the actions of one person. Remy is an extremely angry young woman who feels the rules do not apply to her."

After the sentencing, Papoose got into a shoving match with a court officer. "All y'all want is f*cking money," he yelled. "This is bullsh*t."

Remy's mother and others, who had painted Remy on their faces in red, had to restrain Pap.

As SOHH previously reported, Remy and her fiancé Papoose were scheduled to wed at Rikers Island yesterday, but after Pap allegedly attempted to smuggle a handcuff key into the jail the ceremony was called off.

Sprewell Loses Homes

Former NBA player Latrell Sprewell officially lost his house Monday. From the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:

A River Hills home belonging to former NBA star Latrell Sprewell was foreclosed on today when he failed to show up in court to contest the action brought by a bank that held his mortgage.

The holder of the mortgage, RBS Citizens Bank, told Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge David Hansher that Sprewell owes $320,284. According to River Hills records, the house is assessed at $610,000 and has an estimated fair market value of $667,980. Spreewell bought the house in 1994 for $405,000.

I know the automatic reaction among fans is to point and laugh at the silly athlete who didn't know how to manage his money, but there's nothing funny about foreclosure. I'm in the process of buying a house, and over half of the houses I walked through were both empty and in a sad state of disrepair as a result of frustrated owners taking it out on their property before losing it to foreclosure, which is becoming a sad trend in my state. After awhile, it's just depressing.

Money mismanagement affects people of all stripes and income levels, and it's sad when it's entirely self-inflicted by somebody who seemingly had it all before letting it slip away. So while some may crack jokes about Spree's regrettable "I've got a family to feed" quote he made while turning down millions of dollars toward the end of his career, I've lost my sense of humor about people losing their homes. Wherever Sprewell is, I feel for him.

Wanna Battle Sheek Louch

Supposedly this is being posted all over the Yonkers area, but 1 thing I noticed is there is no CONTACT INFO. I wonder if J Hood is putting these fliers up about Sheek Louch. Also why did they pick Sheek, I mean I like Sheek(Pause) but why not Styles or Kiss. I would say Kiss because he is the more popular one out of the team. But whoever is posting this obviously feels the way I do and that’s Sheek seems to be more in the streets and has a better chance of battling him.

Rihanna in Elle Magazine

There are those hits that climb to the top of the music charts, live in our iPods for a couple months, morph into ring tones, do a cameo on Grey’s Anatomy, and eventually reach their shelf life and disappear into the pop-music ether. And then there are hits, addictive sonic pleasures that burrow deep inside our brains. Songs that seduce not only the Sidekick-packing teens but also the snobby music critics: Madonna’s “Like a Virgin”; George Michael’s “Freedom 90.” Songs that stick.

Rihanna, the Barbados-born singer who landed on our shores only three years ago, launched her career by perfecting the formula for the first kind. There was “Pon de Replay,” a reggae-tinged dance-hall theme from her inaugural album, Music of the Sun, which stormed the radio in summer 2005. Then came her second record, A Girl Like Me, with “SOS,” a hook-driven club phenomenon that heavily sampled the ’80s cover of “Tainted Love” by new-wavers Soft Cell, and “Unfaithful,” a darkish ballad mostly memorable for its video, featuring the barely legal, emerald-eyed heartbreaker writhing atop a grand piano. They were all decent songs, just not unforgettable.

Earthquake kills nearly 9,000 people

CHONGQING, China - One of the worst earthquakes in decades struck central China on Monday, killing nearly 9,000 people, trapping about 900 students under the rubble of their school and causing a toxic chemical leak, state media reported.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake devastated a hilly region of small cities and towns in Sichuan and nearby provinces. The official Xinhua News Agency said 8,533 people died in Sichuan alone and dozens of other deaths were reported in surrounding areas.

Xinhua said 80 percent of the buildings had collapsed in Sichuan province's Beichuan county after the quake, raising fears the overall death toll could increase sharply.

State media said a chemical plant in Shifang city had cratered, burying hundreds of people and spilling more than 80 tons of toxic liquid ammonia from the site.

The earthquake sent thousands of people rushing out of buildings and into the streets hundreds of miles away in Beijing and Shanghai. The temblor was felt as far away as Vietnam and Thailand.

It posed a challenge to a government already grappling with discontent over high inflation and a widespread uprising among Tibetans in western China while trying to prepare for the Beijing Olympics this August.

The quake hit about 60 miles northwest of Chengdu — a city of 3.75 million — in the middle of the afternoon when classrooms and office towers were full. There were several smaller aftershocks, the U.S. Geological Survey said on its Web site.

The temblor struck hilly country leading up to the Tibetan highlands, toppling buildings in small cities and towns in the largely rural area. About 1,200 pandas — 80 percent of the surviving wild population in China — live in several mountainous areas of Sichuan.

The earthquake, China's deadliest since 1976, occurred in an area with numerous fault lines that have triggered destructive temblors before. A magnitude 7.5 earthquake in Diexi, Sichuan that hit on August 25, 1933 killed more than 9,300 people.

Xinhua said 50 bodies had been pulled from the debris of the school building in Juyuan town but did not say if the children were alive. Students also were buried under five other toppled schools in Deyang city, Xinhua reported.

Its reporters saw buried teenagers struggling to break loose from underneath the rubble of the three-story building in Juyuan "while others were crying out for help." Two girls were quoted by Xinhua as saying they escaped because they had "run faster than others."

Photos showed heavy cranes trying to remove rubble from the ruined school. Other photos posted on the Internet and found on the Chinese search engine Baidu showed arms and a torso sticking out of the rubble of the school as dozens of people worked to free them, using their hands to move concrete slabs.

Calls into the city did not go through as panicked residents quickly overloaded the telephone system and the quake also affected power networks.

Although it was difficult to telephone Chengdu, an Israeli student, Ronen Medzini, sent a text message to The Associated Press saying there were power and water outages there.

"Traffic jams, no running water, power outs, everyone sitting in the streets, patients evacuated from hospitals sitting outside and waiting," he said.

The road to Wenchuan from Chendu was cut off by landslides, state media said, slowing the rescue efforts.

Though news trickled out in the first hours after the quake, the government and its media quickly mobilized, with nearly 8,000 soldiers and police sent to the area. China Central Television ran non-stop coverage, with phone reports from reporters and a few isolated camera shots from the scene.

Disasters always pose a test to the communist government, whose mandate in part rests on providing relief to those in need. In recent years, the government has improved emergency planning and rapid response training for the military.

The earthquake also rattled buildings in Beijing, some 930 miles to the north, less than three months before the Chinese capital was expected to be full of hundreds of thousands of foreign visitors for the Summer Olympics.

Li Jiulin, a top engineer on the 91,000-seat National Stadium — known as the Bird's Nest and the jewel of the Olympics — was conducting an inspection at the venue when the quake occurred. He told reporters the building was designed to withstand a 8.0 quake.

"The Olympic venues were not affected by the earthquake," said Sun Weide, a spokesman for the Beijing organizing committee.

Skyscrapers swayed in Shanghai and in the Taiwanese capital of Taipei, 100 miles off the southeastern Chinese coast. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The quake was felt as far away as the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi, where some people hurried out of swaying office buildings and into the streets downtown. A building in the Thai capital of Bangkok also was evacuated after the quake was felt there.

A magnitude 7.8 earthquake is considered a major event, capable of causing widespread damage and injuries in populated areas.

The last serious earthquake in China was in 2003, when a 6.8-magnitude quake killed 268 people in Bachu county in the west of Xinjiang.

China's deadliest earthquake in modern history struck the northeastern city of Tangshan on July 28, 1976, killing 240,000 people.

Remy Ma & Papoose wedding canceled

Words from Kay Slay

Apparently, Papoose was going through the usual security checks at Rikers, on his way to him and Remy’s wedding ceremony today. At one point, a corrections officer was inspecting his keychain and pointed out an old skeleton key that Pap had on the chain. Pap has apparently had all the keys for a long time, and he’s visited Rikers on numerous occasions with the same keychain and never had a problem. But once the CO says he can’t enter with the keys, he gladly gives them up.

But as Pap is about to get on the bus to Rikers, along with Remy’s mom and their other 3 guests. The CO’s pull Papoose and tell him he needs to see the Warden. Papoose is throw into a jailcell, and when he finally sees the Warden, he is accused of….(you ready?)…trying to pass Remy the skeleton key so she can pick the lock on her handcuffs and…..then….somehow….break out of Rikers Island on some Shawshank Redemption/Andy Dufraine shit. WTF?

The Warden not only cancels Papoose and Remy’s wedding, and to throw more salt in the wound, they ban Pap from visiting his fiancee for the next 6 months. And she gets sentenced tomorrow morning.

Cruel.

Well Eskay already posted the tabloid frenzy that’s cooking up. And Slay already knew it was going down because paparazzi caught Papoose after the fiasco, rushing his mom to her car to keep her out of the rain….you can guess how those photos are gonna look tomorrow morning.

Remy Ma & Papoose Married at Rikers(Gossip)

Wedding bells will be ringing Monday for jailed hip-hop star Remy Ma, who plans to marry her boyfriend, rapper Papoose, on Rikers Island, a source close to the rapper said.

The jailhouse ceremony will take place just a day before Ma is sentenced for shooting an ex-friend during a heated word exchange over money in the Meatpacking District last year.

Remy Ma, 26, whose real name is Remy Smith, and the Brooklyn rapper Papoose, named Shamele Mackie, will each be allowed two guests for the wedding.

Less than 24 hours later, Grammy-nominated rapper Ma will face up to 25 years in prison for shooting Makeda Barnes in the stomach last July.

Eminem And Royce Da 5'9" Squash Beef

Detroit’s two most prominent emcees, Royce Da 5’9” and Eminem, have officially resolved their longstanding differences.

“I been talking to Em,” Royce revealed to HipHopDX.com exclusively today. “I didn’t even really wanna tell nobody [yet]. That was kinda like a secret thing. I don’t really know where it’s gonna go. Right now we’re just really focusing on repairing the friendship. That’s the most important thing to me.”

And what did the two old friends discuss in their first conversation in years? Not music, says Royce, “We just been talking about intangible sh*t like movies, our favorite movies, just realizing how much sh*t we always had in common. That first conversation we had we talked for like two hours, just about everything. We did a lot of catching up.”

What the two original “Renegades” have rumored to have newly in common is a reunion track produced by DJ Premier, but Royce explains that a new recording session between the two has yet to take place. “We haven’t really spoken in-depth [yet] about anything creative,” says Royce. “That session hasn’t happened yet. He told me he had some of the best sh*t recorded right now that he’s ever done in his life. I ain’t even got a chance to get with him to hear it yet. He ain’t heard what I got [new], and I ain’t heard what he got [new]. That’s kinda like what our friendship is, it’s always been real competitive. It’s always been that we motivate each other. And I think we at a point in our careers where we both need that.”

Em and Royce’s long overdue reconciliation was ironically initiated by one of Slim Shady’s newest rhyme partners taking shots at one of his oldest. “The Cashis thing was like a blessing,” says Royce of the recently released video interview wherein which Cashis threatens Royce over alleged insults made about Eminem. “That [situation] is what got me and Em [back] together. That’s why I didn’t really [address Cashis' comments]. He was just talking, not knowing who he talking about. I wasn’t gonna move [on him] until I found out what Em’s thoughts were [on the situation]. We done been through too much.”

Royce’s current feelings about Eminem’s newest protĂ©gĂ© are thankfully all positive. “My thoughts on Cashis is I don’t have no problem with him,” says Royce. “I think he felt he was doing good. He felt like he was ridin’ for Em. But I’m just glad it didn’t get to [be beef]. So if I see Cashis, I’ll show him nothing but love because Em vouched for him. He told me that Cashis said he was sorry, and I can’t really say nothing after that.”

Since squashing that potential beef via his reconciliation with Eminem, Royce has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on his highly anticipated next mixtape, The Bar Exam 2, hosted by Green Lantern, as well as his two forthcoming full-length releases, The Revival and Street Hop, both executive produced by DJ Premier. With all that on deck, Royce is sure to be a force to be reckoned with in ’08. “Trust me, man, it’s ‘bout to be crazy,” he aptly notes. “I’ma call [Eminem] today. I’ma stay on him and once we past… As soon as the creative part gets back into our relationship, I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I felt like I never had beef with him. It was more of a falling out between two brothers. It was just two brothers not speaking to each other for a minute. But now we speaking again. So sky’s the limit on what’s gonna happen from there.”

Britney foots the $900K legal bill for K-Fed

The gloves came off in an L.A. court today with Britney Spears' lawyer arguing with Kevin Federline's lawyer over skyrocketing legal fees arising from the former couple's bitter custody battle.

Britney's new lawyer, Stacy Phillips, argued that K-Fed's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan's fees are excessive, saying that four months of fees for both sides added up to a whopping $900,000. Additionally, she argued that Kevin has the ability to pay for his own lawyer (the current agreement stipulates that the pop star pays for all of her ex-husband's legal fees), saying, "Ms. Spears is not an open checkbook."
After Phillips said that Kaplan's fees should be in the "$150,000-$175,000 range," she attacked Kevin, saying he has not separated his personal and business expenses, and revealed that his ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson has use of his business credit card and is using it for personal purposes. She went on to say that K-Fed recently spent $20,000 on jewelry, went out to dinner and left a $2,000 tip on a $365 bill.

UPDATE: Public Information Officer Allan Parachini just held a press conference and told reporters that Commissioner Gordon took the matter of the attorney's fees under advisement, but there's unlikely to be a ruling today.

He revealed that there was a stipulation made on visition, but it is sealed. Parachini said that Kevin Federline spoke briefly during the closed hearing "very crypictically," adding that Jamie Spears was more involved.

Tellingly, K-Fed's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, has chosen not to hold one of his regular press conferences today following the hearing.

This Is NY Governor Spitzer's Hooker, "Kristen"

This is "Kristen," the prostitute at the center of the scandal that brought down the now disgraced governor of New York, Eliot Spitzer. Her real name is Ashley Alexandra Dupré, and according to her MySpace profile, she loves music and she looks up to her brother.

Now, it has been revealed, that Ashley is "Kristen," the woman hired by the governor for sex at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington D.C. in February.

"I just don't want to be thought of as a monster," the governor's prostitute told the New York Times. "This has been a very difficult time. It is complicated."

The woman involved in the scandal that rocked New York and led to a history-making gubernatorial resignation earlier today is a 22-year-old singer who, according to her online profile, fled "an abusive home" at the age of 17. In 2004 she arrived in New York City, where she says she spent two years making contacts, trying to make it in the music biz.

"I have been alone. I have abused drugs. I have been broke and homeless. But, I survived, on my own. I am here, in NY because of my music," the woman known as "Kristen" says on her MySpace profile. "I can honestly tell you to never dwell on the past, but build from it and keep moving forward," she writes. She describes her song "What We Want" as being "about trust, something my past has made very difficult for me to feel," and that it was "inspired by a guy, who taught me not to confuse my dreams with the sounds of the city."

She is reportedly holed up in her apartment building in the Flatiron area of Manhattan. Ashley's mother, Carolyn Capalbo, told the New York Times that her daughter "is a very bright girl who can handle someone like the governor." She also said, "But she also is a 22-year-old, not a 32-year-old or a 42-year-old, and she obviously got involved in something much larger than her."

Lil Waynes Signs Jae Millz

Lil' Wayne has signed Harlem rapper Jae Millz to his Young Money Entertainment imprint, with a new remix set to hit radio in weeks.

Weezy recently made the announcement during a concert to a packed house in Newark NJ. [Watch some exclusive clips form the show here]

Millz confirmed the deal to Complex magazine.

"Yeah, we just drawing up the paperwork, but I've been rocking with [Lil Wayne] since the first week in 2008," the rapper said via a text message. "I've just been keeping stuff low, but Young Money is what it is, and I'm still Wanna Blow. The 'Holla At A Playa Remix' is going to be out in two weeks. We're moving, Young Moola Baby!"

Though Wayne is keeping it moving on the business side, the self-proclaimed greatest rapper alive has spent more time in court than on stage recently.

He just pleaded not guilty to two weapons charges in NYC and is facing drug and weapons charges in Arizona as well.

Shyne Receiving a Early Release

After nearly 7 years, former Bad Boy artist Shyne is expected to be released from prison this year on good behavior.

According to the New York Post's Page Six, the Brooklyn rapper (born Jamal Barrow), who has been incarcerated since 2001, will exit the jail confines a year earlier than his expected 2009 release date. He is currently serving a 10-year jail sentence at Woodbourne Correctional Facility stemming from a 1999 New York club shooting.

The rapper was part of a crew accompanying Sean "Diddy" Combs, his then girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, and bodyguard Anthony "Wolf" Jones when Diddy got into a beef with another club goer, Mathew "Scar" Allen. Three people were struck when shots rang out and while Diddy, Shyne and J-Lo were all arrested after leading police on a short chase, the charges only stuck to Shyne. Combs and Lopez were free and clear.

The Puffy protege was convicted after witness Cerise Myers testified that she saw him pull his gun and begin firing. The rapper spoke out to media outlets shortly after his conviction alleging that Diddy had convinced Myers to lie on the stand.

Shyne inked a $3 million dollar deal with Def Jam from behind bars in 2004 and released the album Godfather Buried Alive under the label but album sales were disappointing. No word on whether Shyne plans to return to rapping after his release.

Though slated to be released for good behavior, Shyne hasn't always been the model prisoner. In '05 he was thrown in the hole for two months after getting into an altercation with another inmate.

In related news, Shyne's father Dean Barrow was elected prime minister of Belize earlier this month, the first black person to hold that office, according to USA Today.

Juvenile Daughter Murdered

Seventeen year old Anthony Terrell Jr. was arrested and charged Friday with killing his mother and two younger sisters.

Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Deputy Joy Deleston, 39, and her two daughters, Micaiah, 11, and Jelani, 4, were found late Thursday at their home near Lawrenceville, Ga.

The motive for the killings is still under investigation and according to various news sources, the youngest victim Jelani was the daughter of rapper Juvenile.

Terrell is being held without bail in the neighboring DeKalb County jail to avoid any potential conflict because his mother worked for Gwinnett County.

Jeff Beaird, who lived across the street from the family, said he often saw Terrell playing basketball or washing his mother’s patrol car in the driveway but doesn’t remember anything out of the ordinary. “It’s so shocking because you don’t expect something like this to happen,” he said.

Fat Joe Challenges 50 cent

More Fighting Words. Hip-Hop's longest running war of words just went into another round. Fat Joe has laid down a challenge to 50 Cent to square off in a one on one fist fight. Joey Crack says he has made the offer to 50 "a million times" already, but Curtis has refused. Joe even counts himself as an underdog. "He's cock diesel," said Joe. "He should win." But the one thing Joe wants to do most during this clash is to "bust them f*cking new teeth that n*gga got."

Bill this one as Butterbean vs. Bugs Monkey. Really, how hard is it for these two cats to find each other to get this on already?

MORE PROBLEMS WITH DIPSET

Un-Diplomatic. Is this the end of the Dipset? After taking a neutral stance in the on-going feud between Jim Jones and Cam'ron, Juelz Santana is finally revealing his own issues with Cam. During an interview with New York's Hot 97 radio, Juelz readily admits that the reason his album has been in limbo for so long is a direct result of Cam's shady behavior of late.

"Me and Cam gotta work some things out, bottom line," Juelz said. "I came in the game when I was young right, so it's no reason for me - to have accomplished and did as much as I did - to be getting treated the same way as I was treated when I just came in."

Despite all their suspect antics over the years, one must admit that the demise of the Dipset crew is not good for hip-hop. At the height of their popularity the Harlem bunch brought an air of excitement to the game, especially Cam. From rocking pink to the silly scarfy look, the Dips are (unfathomably) considered trendsetters in hip-hop culture. And with Cam owning the rights to the Dipset name it's going to be a while before this one gets resolved. Why can't hip-hop crews come together and stay together?

Honestly, isn't it kind of foul for Cam to pull a stunt like this on Juelz after all he went through with Jay-Z and Def Jam? Wonder who Juelz thinks is a better boss now, Jay or Cam?

Meanwhile, Jim Jones has unrelated artist problems of his own. Former Byrdgang member Max B is going hard at the Dipset capo.

T.I. talks on new album dropping

House arrest may have been the best thing that’s happened for T.I.’s career as of late.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, T.I. expressed the concentration he’s given his sixth studio album entitled Paper Trail, tentatively scheduled for release later this fall. When asked how much he’s gotten done, T.I. said,
“I’ve got about thirty-some tracks done, but I’ve got like sixteen that I’m in love with and I’m still working. After you get those sixteen, you try to make sixteen more to top them and you pick the best.”

T.I. also spoke about the various producers that he’s worked with, citing a few in-house producers from Grand Hustle Records (Little C and Keith Mack), Danja, J.R. Rotem and most significantly DJ Toomp. This would be their first record together since T.I.’s 2005 release King, as Toomp and T.I. had creative differences during the production of T.I. Vs. T.I.P.

It was reported earlier that T.I. was actually writing down lyrics for Paper Trail, and T.I. explains this change.

“People were saying how they missed the old sound, they missed that I’m Serious T.I., so I figured that I would try to tap into that element.”

No work from Paper Trail has been released, nor an album release date, so HipHopDX will keep you updated with definitely more to come.

TANK BRUTALIZED BY POLICE

Grammy nominated R&B singer Tank says he was the victim of police brutality last Sunday at the conclusion of NBA All Star Weekend in New Orleans.
The incident took place early Sunday morning around 1:30 am. The singer and one of his business partners left the House of Blues in New Orleans in search of their driver. According to a statement release, the pair asked a nearby security officer for directions to their destination and set out on foot.
As Tank rounded the final corner and spotted his vehicle, he was stopped by a New Orleans Police Officer and instructed to turn around.
During the exchange, Tank attempted to negotiate another path to the vehicle and also assured the officer (who was black) that he was not a threat, the officer told said he didn’t owe the singer “any explanations.”
Tank was later approached by three white officers approached and began asking questions. After asking for further explanation, the officers slammed Tank up against a nearby wall, bending one arm behind his back, which trapped the singer’s other arm between his body and the wall.
The officers asked Tank to release the pinned arm, which he could not do.
Apparently fed up at what the officers may have perceived as insubordination (for not releasing his pinned arm), Tank was shot at close range with a taser and forced to the ground.
During the incident, one of the officers told the singer “never mess with the law in New Orleans,” according to a statement released.
“The most frustrating part of the entire incident is knowing that I did not do anything to pose a threat but was treated like a criminal,” he said in the wake of the incident. “With a clean-cut image and a lady by my side, the law took matters into their own hands and chose to endanger my safety and those accompanying me. It’s 2008 and New Orleans is still very much in trouble beyond the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I’m a living witness.”
Tank has engaged the services of the Law Office of Bernard L. Charbonnet, Jr. “My firm intends to vigorously protect his interest as we do for all of our clients,” Charbonnet says.
The incident is still under investigation.

R. Kelly Publicist Speaks Out

(L to R)GEORGE, MAXINE, AND R. KELLY
Looks like R. Kelly is in some more trouble. As usual, it involves him and that over-active sex drive of his. You know, the one that only allows him to mess with girls under the age of 20. But anyhow, George Daniels, who is the husband of R. Kelly’s former publicist, Regina Daniels, spoke out against the Chicago-bred singer, accusing that Kelly had an “inappropriate” relationship with his daughter, Maxine, who Daniels claimed the singer had known since she was “a little girl.” Here’s what Robert’s people had to say:
It’s hard to take seriously the moral outrage expressed by George and Regina Daniels over R. Kelly’s relationship with Mr. Daniels’ adult daughter, Maxine. The fact is that they had no problem with the relationship — indeed, they encouraged it — while Ms. Daniels was on Mr. Kelly’s payroll. It was Regina Daniels, then working as a publicist for Mr. Kelly, who persuaded him to attend her step-daughter’s 21st birthday party. And it was Regina Daniels who shortly thereafter gave her step-daughter Mr. Kelly’s private phone number, with the admonition: ‘Don’t tell your father.’ It was only after Ms. Daniels resigned her position to avoid being fired for incompetence that her stepdaughter’s relationship suddenly became an issue for her and her husband.

Scott Storch Coughs up 500K

Back in May of 2007, David Menefield, owner of the LA Confidential record label and former manager of Nocturnal, sued Scott Storch because he claimed he lent Storch's Tuff Jew Productions $100,000 to prevent the forclosure of his home, when Storch was experiencing financial problems in 2003. Scott Storch never repaid the loan and reneged on other portions of the agreement including four tracks he promised to Menefields artist, which are valued at $100,000 a piece. On February 13th a judge sided with Menefield, ruling that Storch must pay $509,717, which includes the original loan plus the total of $400,000 for the tracks and attorney fees. "Scott Storch never had the courtesy even to call me and speak to me directly about this matter after I asked to be repaid," Menefield said. "I had to hire my tough Jewish lawyer Bret Lewis to beat the $509,717.50 from Scott Storch and Tuff Jew Productions in court. Scott Storch has not given a statement yet.

Riot Breaks at a Concert with Akon

Wednesday's free concert that featured R&b star Akon, took a turn for the bad after police struggled to maintain order with upset fans. Reuters is reporting that violence started after a fire alarrm was pulled out during the show at the Fields Shopping Mall in Copenhagen. 2-3 thousand people attended the event where the director Jens Geppel said "It was a free concert and we knew that many people would come, but there were a lot of people there, more than we had expected." The fire alarm ended up being false, but fans were evacuated and began to protest. At that point officers fought several dozen fans who threw bottles and rocks at them after they were evacuated. Eight people were arrested and emergency services had to treat a number of people who were injured, although no serious injuries were reported.

Jadakiss Speaks "Jay-Z, Hip Hop, and Album"

Jadakiss is speaking out and giving his opinions on Jay-Z leaving Dej Jam, his thoughts on the state of hip hop and talks about his upcoming Roc-A-Fella debut. Jada didn't hold back when asked about the state of hip hop these days, saying "N*gga's is garbage," he said. "The game is f*cked up ... a bunch of ring tone, tight-pants-wearing motherf*ckrs. I'm just doin' me. The music is f*cking garbage, man. Kanye came out with hot music. He sold records. T.I., same thing. Alicia Keys, same sh*t. If your sh*t was hot and you had a machine, you sold records." Kiss went on to say that he signed up with Roc-A-Fella for "A change of pace," as he said in an interview with The Come Up DVD. "The people like change. The fans like change. Not too dramatic but y'know, they like to see new sh*t and hear new sh*t and see new sh*t. It aint no different though. Different machine maybe but we've yet to see."

He says he has 7-8 songs done but still needs to get production from big producers, saying "I still gotta holla at Kanye, Just Blaze, maybe Pharell, hopefully Dr. Dre, Toomp ... whoever got the f*cking heat man, Timbaland, Storch," he said. "I don't discriminate. If it's hot, let's have it."

He then went on to talk about the title of his album. "Nas is dropping N*gger, why I can't drop Kiss My Ass," he asked? "I think I might keep my sh*t. Kiss My Ass coming soon."

When asked about artists that aren't selling that much, he said "Don't blame nobody, just make better music, *ssholes," Jada said. "It's a business at the end of the day, so you can be mad at who ever but you gotta be mad at yourself. Either the music wasn't right or you didn't handle your business. It's as simple as that."

Jada went on to talk about Jay-Z and leaving Def Jam, saying "He tried his hand for a few years, he raped the budget, he got however much they was paying him and he stepped down," Jada said. "He got his masters, he doin' his thing. 40/40's in Vegas and all that, hotels, he good."

Larry Davis Killed in Prison

By CRISTIAN SALAZAR, Associated Press Writer 14 minutes ago

A man who gained notoriety after wounding six police officers in a 1986 gunfight that led to a nationwide manhunt was killed in prison, corrections officials said Thursday.

Larry Davis, serving 25 years to life on a murder conviction in an unrelated case, was stabbed to death around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday during a recreational break at Shawangunk Correctional Facility in Ulster County, said Erik Kriss, a spokesman for the state Department of Correctional Services.

Davis was stabbed repeatedly with a 12-by-1 1/2-inch homemade metal shank in the arms, head, back, upper thigh and chest, Kriss said.

"I don't know what was happening at this exact moment," he said, adding that prison staff were in the yard when a fight was observed and inmates began congregating. "Things happen quickly."

Another inmate at the prison 80 miles north of the city was being questioned in Davis' death by state police and the inspector general for corrections and had been placed in a segregated cell, Kriss said. The inmate had not been charged in Davis' death as of early Thursday.

Davis, 41, had most recently been convicted in 1991 of fatally shooting a suspected drug dealer in the Bronx.

Five years earlier, police had gone to an apartment to arrest him as a suspect in the slayings of five other drug dealers.

During the ensuing shootout, Davis escaped unhurt through a window, setting off a 17-day manhunt that involved hundreds of officers. He eventually surrendered to police after being tracked to a housing project where one of his sisters lived, where he held a woman and her children hostage in an all-night standoff before giving up, police said at the time.

At his trial, the defense contended that the officers were trying to kill Davis because he had knowledge about police corruption, and that he opened fire in self-defense. Prosecutors said Davis was trying to evade arrest by shooting at the officers.

A jury acquitted him of attempted murder and aggravated assault. He was instead convicted on weapons charges and sentenced to five to 15 years in prison.

The gunfight and Davis' flight from the law made him a folk hero to some and a symbol of outrage to others, especially law enforcement. More than 1,500 officers incensed by the verdict gathered outside the courthouse to demand the maximum penalty.

Kevin Liles Keeps Jay-Z Rumors Alive

Jay-Z steeped down as president of Def Jam back in December of 2007, and since then there has been many rumors and speculation about what he will be doing next. The most recent of these rumors was that Jay was going to Warner Music Group. Apparently an industry insider told the New York Daily News that Jay was in talks to start his own label with the head of Warner Music Group, Lyor Cohen. Cohen has previously stated, "I would be honored and privileged to work with him again. Bringing Jay-Z to the Warner Music Group would be a privilege and a coup. I'd do it in a heartbeat." When Kevin Liles was asked to confirm or deny the rumors, he wouldn't do either. He simply said "Jay is going to do Jay. I wish him the best of luck in whatever he decides to do. We always gonna be together so it is what it is."

50 cent laughin to the Bank

According to the New York Post, 50, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, learned this Monday (Feb. 11) that he will no longer have to pay ex-girlfriend Tomkins $25,000 a month to care for their 10-year-old son Marquis. Instead 50 will now be required to pay $6,700 per month, a significant reduction for the rapper.

As SOHH previously reported, 50 filed with Suffolk County Family Court a year ago to create an official child support arrangement because Tomkins financial demands were getting out of hand.

In April, a Suffolk County judge awarded Tomkins $25,000 a month ($10,000 a month in child support and $15,000 for expenses), approximately half of the $50,000 a month she'd requested, while the court reviewed expenses for her and 50's son.

With the review complete, the court's decision was handed down this week.

"My client and I are very happy with the ruling," 50's lawyer, Brett Kimmel was quoted by the NY Post.

Jay-Z says "Everything Is Sweet"

Jay-Z says there is zero animosity between him and Island/ Def Jam chairman L.A. Reid. Hov didn't leave his post as president of Def Jam under less-than-amiable circumstances — he just wanted to find the next big venture.

Jay-Z says "everything is sweet" between him and L.A. Reid

"It wasn't a hostile thing," he explained on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night. "I was with L.A. last night. We still gonna continue to work on [projects], just not [with me] as the president of Def Jam. But everything is sweet."

Jay leaves in his wake some albums that were in the limelight on Sunday: Kanye West's Graduation, Ne-Yo's Because of You and Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Band — all of which were released during Hov's tenure at Def Jam — won Grammy trophies, or feature songs that did. Now that his time in office is done, Hov said it was "fantastic" to see his former artists receive such high honors.

"You wanna end on a high note," he said.

Well, what about Jay's next beginning? He has been rumored to be starting so many business endeavors, including ones with companies such as Apple and even Warner Bros. Records, MTV News had to ask.

Jay-Z wants to continue to push the envelope (MTV OVERDRIVE)

"I got so many different options," Jay said. "I wanna continue to push the envelope, represent the culture well. Make the people proud. The next thing is gonna involve a little bit of everything. It has to involve music, 'cause I love music.

"But I have so many other skills as an entrepreneur I can add to that," he continued. "Even with the decline in CD sales, music [consumption] is at an all-time high. ... People still love music as much as ever. I'm trying to help other artists figure that out so you can make beautiful music and you don't have to pay your bills with your CDs. You're making money in so many other places. I'm just trying to figure that out."

Jay just completed the video for "I Know," a track featured on his American Gangster album.

Wezzy indicted on drug charges!

YUMA, Ariz. -- Rapper Lil Wayne has been indicted by a Yuma County grand jury on felony drug and weapons charges.

Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was charged with one count each of possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, misconduct involving weapons and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a criminal indictment filed by the Yuma County Attorney's Office.

Carter pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Friday.

His attorney, James Tilson, said Carter's legal team plans to look at the state's evidence and figure out if any motions need to be filed. Meanwhile, Carter was continuing to keep his concert schedule.

"He is currently touring as we speak," Tilson said.

Carter's next scheduled court appearance will be a March 7 status hearing.

The rapper's tour bus was stopped Jan. 22 at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint near Dateland, Ariz., 78 miles east of Yuma.

A search of the bus by Drug Enforcement Administration agents yielded nearly four ounces of marijuana, just over an ounce of cocaine, 41 grams of Ecstasy and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia. DEA agents then arrested Carter.

Officials also found a .40-caliber pistol registered to Carter, who has a concealed weapons permit in Florida.

In October, Carter and several other rappers were named in a federal lawsuit filed by music publishing companies, accusing them of sampling other artists' songs without paying licensing fees.

Natalie Cole: Amy Winehouse Didn't Deserve to Win Grammys

Not everyone was happy about Amy Winehouse’s big win at the Grammys Sunday night.

“I don’t think she deserved it,” previous Grammy-winning singer Natalie Cole said. “I think she needs to get her life together first, and then get the awards later."

Winehouse took a break from rehab to perform via satellite from London at the Grammys and collect five awards.

Cole also called Winehouse “crazy,” and complained that we are teaching youngsters that they can get rewarded for bad behavior.

Winehouse won in the categories of best female artist, best female pop vocal performance, best song, record of the year and best pop vocal album.

Aretha Franklin Slams Beyonce

LOS ANGELES — When Aretha Franklin is unhappy, she does not mince words. On Tuesday, the longtime Queen of Soul slammed Beyonce Knowles' intro to Tina Turner at Sunday's Grammy Awards, in which Knowles called Turner, not Franklin, "the queen."

"I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce," Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. "However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy."

E-mails to Knowles' publicist Yvette Noel-Schure and calls and e-mails to Recording Academy spokeswomen Jaime Sarachit and Barb Deghan were not immediately returned.

In the first few seconds of Knowles' intro to Turner's performance, she name-dropped Franklin and a long list of famed female singers. Then the "Crazy in Love" chanteuse focused on Turner.

"There is one legend who has the essence of all of those things: the glamour, the soul, the passion, the strength, the talent," said Knowles, strutting in hot pants. "Ladies and gentlemen. Stand on your feet and give it up for the queen."

At a party later that night, Knowles called Turner her "ultimate icon."

Still, Franklin ended her brief criticism on a gracious note, thanking the Grammys and the voting academy and saying, "love to Beyonce anyway."

Known for such hits as "Respect" and "Chain of Fools," Franklin tied with the Clark Sisters for best gospel performance trophy for her duet "Never Gonna Break My Faith" with Mary J. Blige.

Katt Williams Hands Out $100 Bills

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Even a standup comedian can use a good prop, and Katt Williams had one of the best — a briefcase stuffed with cash. While he cracked jokes at the Laugh Factory on Sunday night, the comedian with a taste for fedoras and wide lapels worked the audience, handing out $100 bills to everybody.

In all, the comedian handed out about $29,000, Laugh Factory owner Jamie said.

"You should have seen it," Masada said. "Some people were crying. They came to see the show and they got $100."

Williams' manager didn't immediately respond to an e-mail Tuesday, but Masada said the comedian told the audience he hadn't forgotten his roots and wanted to thank his loyal audience.

Williams appeared with Ice Cube and Tracy Morgan in this year's "First Sunday." He has hosted BET's annual Hip Hop Awards since its first broadcast in 2006.

Level 3 Sex Offender Wins Big In Lottery

UXBRIDGE, Mass. -- A convicted Level 3 sex offender has won $10 million in the Massachusetts State Lottery.

The Worcester Gazette & Telegram reports 56-year-old Daniel Snay, of Uxbridge, could now face charges because he failed to notify authorities that he had moved, according to Connecticut State Police.

“I’m flabbergasted,” Connecticut State Police Lt. Paul Vance told the Telegram. “His whereabouts, until you told me about this, have been unknown to us. But I guess you could say he’s very fortunate.”

Snay works driving trucks for a yacht dealership in Mendon. He won the $10 million from a $20 scratch ticket purchased at Cumberland Farms in Hopedale.

But the lottery winnings also come with unwanted publicity.

“He was concerned, but there’s not much you can do about it,” said Snay’s lawyer Joseph M. Fabricotti. “We talked about it and he understood this was one of the repercussions that could happen.”

Snay’s record of sexual assaults dates back to 1974. He has been convicted six times of indecent assault and battery in Massachusetts. Level 3 offenders are considered the most dangerous and the most likely to commit another crime.
